Yoga for Effortless Diving
|
In this time of austerity, have you considered how economical your diving is?
Do you get as much time as you'd like from your tank or breath-hold? Moving efficiently in your fins? Do you find your dives stressful? Getting cramps or feeling stiff after diving? Thankfully there are things we can do to address these common diving problems. Breathing right, relaxing and keeping fit and flexible are the keys to effortless diving. Yoga can help you do all this, and much more....

Explore your Ocean Within
Practice on land to build strength, increase your air efficiency and become a safer diver. Bring mind and body under conscious control by harnessing your breath.
Breathe in energy, breathe out fatigue. Relax, slow down and just be present.
Open your mind, your heart and your lungs…and everything else will follow!

Exercise of the Month
Complete, yoga or three-part breath
Try this either lying down or sitting. Breathe into the belly, then the chest and then all the way to the collarbones. A full inhale and then release the breath from the top to the bottom, drawing back the belly gently to complete the out breath. I suggest a 3:3:2 count for beginners (belly:chest:collarbone). This way of breathing is conscious, relaxing, clears stale air from the lungs, massages the organs in the belly and exercises the diaphragm and intercostal muscles.
